Plymouth Lobster Crawl

Overview

The Lobster Crawl was a public art project initiated by the town of Plymouth. Thirty 4’ tall plexiglass lobsters were commissioned, each was sponsored by a local business, and artists applied to design and paint the lobsters.

I won the commission to do 2 lobsters: SID for the Old Colony Elder Services (OCES) and Max for Remax Spectrum. Designing the lobsters was a collaborative process. OCES wanted SID to reflect their commitment to helping elderly and disabled people and to advertise the range of services they provide across an area that spans Plymouth to Brockton.

Remax Spectrum wanted a design that showcased Plymouth’s most recognizable landmarks including: the rock, the Grist Mill, and Hedge House. It was important to them the design acknowledged Remax Spectrum so we added hot air balloons and a company banner.

The Lobsters were displayed in downtown Plymouth for two years, and auctioned off to private bidders in 2018.
